How I Battle My Travel Anxiety || Me, Myself & Anxiety

23/09/2018

Here are my five top tips that I find help with my travel anxiety. When I stick to them I have a nice easy trip with minimal stress. If I don’t I can assure you something always goes wrong and I kick myself! So new life rule, follow my own tried and tested advice.

  1. Where possible I always check-in the night before, or 24hours if I can.

If you haven’t tried them already, I’d highly recommend the airline apps. You can pretty much do whatever you need to on there, check-in, book flights, add a bag. I always download the app of whoever I’m going to be flying with, log in, check in, and screen shot the boarding pass (just incase) and that’s it, one less stress!!

Poland Trip – Sopot | MagpieMagpie.ie

04/09/2018

As you guys may know Jarek (my boyfriend) is from Poland, Sopot to be exact, so I thought it was about time I did a little Sopot post.

Sopot is a sea side town in northern Poland, the vibe is chill, but as its a popular summer destinations it can get very busy.

1. Monte Cassino

This is the main street that’s a pedestrian zone. It has lots of bars, restaurants and shops, and leads straight onto the Molo ( aka the pier). We have no H&M in Jersey so that’s always my first stop, and just beside is a pharmacy meet pound shop type place that I love going too. They sell Wibo which is a polish makeup brand I really like and they always have cute random things. This year I got some macaroon containers, you may have seen them on my instagram (LINK). There are a few other clothing shops in that area that are definitely worth a look.

Also right on the other side of H&M is the “Crooked House” which was designed by Szotyńscy & Zaleski, who were inspired by the fairytale illustrations and drawings of Jan Marcin Szancer and Per Dahlberg. It’s actually just a costa coffee, but it’s one of the must sees on Monte Cassino. On a side note H&M and Costa both have free wifi.

48 Hours in London

As a little surprise for Jarek I decided to book us a little mini break to London. We lived in London years ago but never really got to enjoy it as our work-life balance was horrendous.

The trip was for Jarek’s 33rd Birthday so I thought it would be cute to book it for his 33 1/3 birthday, there is actually an online calculator you can use to figure this out which I thought was quite cool.

I decided to book most all our excursions though 365 Tickets which is actually based in Jersey, it was super quick and easy but you need to be organised! Its best to have a plan and know what dates/times you wanna do things! And the hotel I chose was the Ambassadors Bloomsbury which is located in Euston, a great central location.

I actually don’t enjoy traveling. I love exploring new places and experiencing new cultures, but hate the packing and the getting there. I get very anxious and just don’t enjoy that bit of the journey. This is why I decided to get a late flight on Friday night and stay over at the Bloc Hotel in Gatwick.

It just meant I had time to adjust and would be ready to tackle our first day in London no problem.

The hotel itself is a bit basic. Tiny rooms, very odd bathroom layout, techy, and not very cozy. This didn’t bother me too much as we were just there to sleep. Usually I’d stay at the Premier Inn, but the price of the Bloc Hotel was better and it was something a little bit different.

BlocHotel

We popped over to Cafe Nero (it’s just outside the hotel) and got a quick bite, then off to the Gatwick Express. If I can I always try to get my train tickets at the south terminal coz they have a desk there where you can actually speak to someone. We got a return ticket and off we went.

Breakfast

We arrived at London Victoria and made our way to the tube. We still had our Oyster Cards and I was sure I had some mula on mine so we went straight through. I hadn’t been on the tube in years but it was like riding a bike. We were at Euston station in no time.

Finding the hotel wasn’t too hard but no one seemed to know where it was and we had no WiFi. London has tourist maps all over the place and I have to say they are a GOD send. We used them a number of times! We got to the hotel, left our bags, I decided to change coz it was a scorcher of a day, and off we went to our first destination, Borough Market.

Hotel

We used our oyster cards for getting around, and I made sure to get one of those little tube maps! I love them. I think we spent about £20 getting around just incase you were wondering.

I love me a good market and Jarek loves food so I thought this would be the perfect first spot to have a little wonder about until we could check into our hotel. There was a little fridge in our hotel room so the plan was to stock up, order some bubbles and have a little hotel picnic that night. We decided to have a super chill rest of the day and just enjoy the hotel room and bath! It was so lovely! And exactly what a romantic mini break is all about!

The next day was a busy one, we had lots to pack in! Our first stop was Hay’s Galleria to do a bit of pottering about before we headed to The Shard.

We had a little wonder, took some photos and had an early lunch before heading over to The View From The Shard. I’d booked it for one which was a bit late to be honest, Euston (where we were staying) was the perfect location for the tube and getting around, but I didn’t know how good it would be when I’d booked it so we had a bit of a late start to the day. If I was booking all over again I’d have actually booked the Shard twice, once early about 11 maybe and once later in the night so we could seen the lights and maybe have a few more cocktails! I’d highly recommend The View From The Shard and will for sure be going again!

Next was The Tower Of London. It’s on the other side so of course we took our chance to check out Tower Bridge too. We really enjoyed The Tower Of London, there was so much to see and do! We both agreed that we could have spent the whole day there exploring, but unfortunately my itinerary didn’t allow that ha ha! I loved seeing the crown jewels and we both really enjoyed the armory, they also had staff dressed up and acting out different scenarios which if we were there all day we could have really enjoyed.

As it was Sunday I thought it might be nice to catch the last mass at St Pauls Cathedral. it’s a Christian faith church just incase you were wondering. I’m not very religious, but its a once in a blue moon opportunity so we thought it might be nice.

The architecture and decore of the Cathedral is just stunning. The next time I’m in London I will be getting a ticket for the whole thing and really exploring. The mass was very nice, but we were so shattered we said we’d head back to the hotel for a nap and a spruce up, then hit Covent Garden for a cocktail. This was the only part of the trip I hadn’t organised, and what a fail!! We ended up just wondering about like idiots and then decided to give up get the bus home (we got a bus right outside the hotel pretty much straight to CG), thankfully on the way back we happened to come across The Delaunay and popped in for a last min cocktail.

Our flight was about four the next day so I had decided to embarrass the anxiety and had book the London Eye for first thing in the morning. It was crazy busy so get in quick if you can. We had to queue to get our tickets and time was stressing me out so we decided to upgrade our ticket and skip the, now massive, queue. It was a very good decision. I think if I was to book this trip again, I’d skip the London Eye and do the Shard twice, but thats just me!

Then a mad dash back to the hotel and off to the airport, we traveled through Gatwick so of course we had to have an early dinner at Jamies! Had to be done ha ha .

I’d taken loads of photos so I hope they give a real feel for what each area was like! I’ve also added in a couple of videos witch I touch would give a better idea of crowds and noise ( this can set off my anxiety sometimes).

The Grand Hotel and Spa Jersey

08/04/2016

Ok before we start, get yourself a cuppa tea (and some cake or biscuits because why else would you have tea lets face it) It’s going to be a bit of a long one!!

Over the Easter break I had the pleasure of staying at the Grand Jersey Hotel and Spa for an overnight stay. Jarek and I had stayed there before and we had a lovely time so he decided to get us an overnight with dinner and breakfast for my Birthday. Jarek was working on my actual Birthday and even though we spent the morning together I wanted to do something special so an overnight stay was perfect.

We decided to stay on a Monday so we turned up about 1 o’clock to check in. Now we didn’t exactly realise that the check in time was actually 2pm but it was fine. We checked in with a very nice chap named Alex, and were told our room wasn’t ready just yet and we could make ourselves comfortable in the Champagne Lounge until our rooms was ready. It was a terrible day out and we had walked to the Grand so I was dying to sit down and have a cuppa, so that’s what we did. I’ve been to the Champagne lounge many times before and really like it there. It has a modern look but is so cosy and the staff there are always lovely. Really friendly, attentive and professional.
