Can you believe we are here again. How the year has flown! Actually flown what the hell, where is my life going.
This years Jersey Film Festival has been and gone, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s one of my favourite things to do over the summer in Jersey!
It’s a free event in Howard Davis Park where they show new and classic movies in the park on a big screen. It is a free event but it’s also for charity so they do go around with buckets so you can donate, but they aren’t pushy. I donate about £4 each time I go. If you haven’t been I urge you to go. It’s a lot of fun, and just cute chill vibes.
One of the best things is that I get to perfect my picnic skills. You may have noticed that my Pinterest has a whole folder dedicated to this subject.
I get all my picnic accessories out, blankets, basket, jars (Reusing shop bought jars are a great idea) . I go all out and do a homemade picnic everyday. If you’d like me to do a picnic series next year let me know in the comments section.
It’s funny because I don’t really pay much attention to the film selection, I just always make sure I go every year, they have upped their film game over the years thought so there’s usually some great films on! I’ll leave a link to there page HERE.
Over the years I’ve become a picnic master, if I do say so myself, and have made a little must have list fo this event.
- Nice picnic basket
This is a bit of no brainer but a decent picnic basket is a must! We have a two person basket that had a super sturdy handle, there’s a small cooler box section and of course proper “ceramic” plates, with knife, fork and spoons, salt and pepper shaker, a proper bottle opener, and two wine type glasses. A regular basket would do but, if you can, invest in a 2 or 4 person picnic basket, it just makes life a bit easier. They can be expensive but, think of it as an investment. I’ve had mine for over two year and we use it every spring/summer.
- Proper picnic blanket
This is a must! I have a beautiful Mexican blanket I got with a friend in Tijuana, but I now use it over a “proper” picnic blanket as it has the shield at the bottom against the damp grass. No one wants a damp bum bum! I bought mine in the pound shop for relatively cheap, but you can spend out the door for them depending on your budget.
There are some stunning ones on the market, I love the ones from Bombay Duck, but they can get quite pricey! My budget wouldn’t stretch to those so, I bought mine from my local “pound” shop. I have big plans to jazz them up but as of yet I haven’t ha ha.
- Extra blanket
This year we haven’t needed one, but last year it was soo cold at night that I was upset with myself that I didn’t bring a lovely cozy one.
- Wipes & Tissues
Essential for cleaning up, wiping hands, mopping up messes. Bring ’em you’ll need ’em!
- Snuggly Fuzzy socks
This is my favourite! I love any excuse to get cozy! My sister Aideen actually gave me the idea for this one. As I mentioned it can get a bit nippy at night and who wants to keep their shoes on? Not me that’s for sure, so the shoes come off and the cozy socks come on!
- Reuseable Containers.
You don’t need to go out and spend a fortune on picnic tupperware, I mean you can if you prefer – try get glass ones if you feel the need. I reuse our salsa jars from the Co-Op for everything and Jarek sometimes gets a Starbucks drink which comes in a glass bottle and they are perfect for bringing juices on your picnic.
- Super cozy clothes
I know you’ll be tempted to wear you cute dress and get those insta pics but I can tell you now you won’t enjoy the film if you’re freezin’. So get the comfy, cozy clothes on and enjoy.
- Spare plastic bag to use as a bin.
I always forget this and kick myself! Ideally I’d like use something other than a plastic bag, but I usually have one of those hanging around so it makes most sense, and if you have any more eco friendly ideas do let me know in the comments section!
- A Brolly or rain proof jacket (just in case)
I think every year I’ve been it has rained a little, we all know how changeable the weather can be! When I have a big enough handbag I usually have a brolly, suncream, sunnies and waterproof mascara at any given time. Leave the brolly emoji below if you feel me, Ha ha!
Have you this years Jersey Film Festival? I’d love it if you’d tag me in your IG picnic photos -@magpiemagpieblog
As always, thanks so much for reading.
Till next week.
