Christmas Gift Guide

Stocking Fillers For Under £16 || MagpieMagpie Blog

08/12/2018

Hi Lovelies,

I hope you are all have a fantastic lead up to Christmas. I’m back again with another stocking filler gift guide.

If you’ve read Sundays post, you’ll know that I’m really trying to up my stocking game! This post is very similar to the previous one but, the main difference is that I’ve upped the price and just given you one gift idea. I think as the years go on this type of post will evolve, so I’d love your thoughts in the comment section down below.

Also just to mention again, I’m based in Jersey CI so all my prices are based on the prices available to me here.

Lime Crime is a brand I’ve always wanted to try, but am never sure about it. That being said, if I was to receive one in my stocking I’d be pleased. I love me a winter berry colour so when i saw this one I knew it had to be in the post. Unicorns are really big right now too so even if it’s just for the package, you know you’ve bought something just for the packing, we’ve all done it, it’ll go down a treat. This little beauty comes in at £14.45

Get Into The Christmas Spirit || MagpieMagpie Blog

25/11/2018

Woohoo it’s that time of year again!

I think for the rest of 2018 we are just going to have to face the fact that if I actually get a post up on time it’ll be a miracle. I do promise to try my best to get one up once a week.

As you guys know by now I LOVE LOVE LOVE Christmas! It actually is the most wonderful time of your! Christmas 2017 was a very trying time for me, but the celebrations we had at home was just magical. I think any situation can be made special once you concentrate on the positive, and shop of course! Retail therapy can sometimes be just what the Dr ordered! Nowadays  I try to stay away from a fast lifestyle, but I have to say when Christmas comes around that all goes out the window. This year I have to be a bit more reserved as my circumstances have changed and I went a bit mad last year so I should be covered for a year or two. Ha ha.

Right anyway that enough waffling, back to the post.

I can’t wait for the 1st of December, to get the Christmas Jumpers out and the tree up AND the mulled wine on! I’m hoping with this blog post you’ll get right into the spirit.

Pyjamas

Who doesn’t love Pjs? I’m into cutesie, snuggly ones. You won’t see anything sexy here! We used to live in an apartment that had an open fire, and there was nothing better then getting on the snuggly pjs and a hot chocolate with a Christmas movie on, with the fire crackling in the background. DELIGHTFUL!

These first ones from Dorothy Perkins are a bit more subtle Christmas, which is great if you want you Christmas pjs to see you through January too these ones might be the ones for you. These are currently on sale at £25.60 so get in quick before they are gone!

This festive little number are from Dunnes are RIGHT up my street, I love a good red set and if they have little Christmas imagery #winning.  For those of you who don’t know Dunnes, it’s an Irish based company that does in fact deliver to Jersey! They are also the most reasonable of the lot coming in at £8.

This year there isn’t a shop that doesn’t have a pair of Grinch Pyjamas. These ones from NewLook with the “Naughty Who Me?” slogan are right up my street. I have a similar pair from last year that I can’t wait to get out. These ones come is at £19.99.

This ones for the safety queens. Not too Christmas, but just Christmas enough for the ones who like Christmas but don’t go OTT like the rest me ha ha. Coming in at £18 from Next they are not the cheapest, but it must be said, they are very cute.

Kikki.K at De Gruchy || MagpieMagpie.ie

08/11/2018

Here we are… Late again. Sorry x

This might be a really random post, but I just couldn’t resist chatting about Kikki.K. It’s recently become available in De Gruchy, so I was excited. I envisioned a bigger selection, but that didn’t stop me spending my money.

I think I was first introduced to the brand when I got into planning and I followed a few groups on facebook, and then I saw Zoella chatting about it. Since then I’ve followed then on insta and just coveted everything! I’m not a huge fan of buying online, so as there was no stockist here I haven’t bought much.

On our way back from our London trip we traveled trough Gatwick, where they had just put up a Kikki.K stall. I was so excited, went straight over, the girls there were lovely and helpful and great advocates of the brand!

I ended up getting a pencil case type thing, that I use as a little makeup bag, and a book. The best part was that they had the option to personalise things, so I got “Magpie” foiled onto my pencil case in rose gold and it was worth ever penny!

Hi Lovelies,

Well I can tell you I’m glad that couple of weeks is over, and that this one is nearly over!! Sorry I missed you guys last week, and this Sunday, but I just couldn’t. It was just a couple of those weeks, ye know!

I think I’ve finally gotten back in the swing of Jersey life, well as much as someone like me can, and I’m ready to get back to blogging!

While I was home I had the pleasure of visiting the seaweed baths in Ballybunion. They are opens from the end of May till the mid September.  My mother is an avid visiter in the summer so I was quite excited.

48 Hours in London

As a little surprise for Jarek I decided to book us a little mini break to London. We lived in London years ago but never really got to enjoy it as our work-life balance was horrendous.

The trip was for Jarek’s 33rd Birthday so I thought it would be cute to book it for his 33 1/3 birthday, there is actually an online calculator you can use to figure this out which I thought was quite cool.

I decided to book most all our excursions though 365 Tickets which is actually based in Jersey, it was super quick and easy but you need to be organised! Its best to have a plan and know what dates/times you wanna do things! And the hotel I chose was the Ambassadors Bloomsbury which is located in Euston, a great central location.

I actually don’t enjoy traveling. I love exploring new places and experiencing new cultures, but hate the packing and the getting there. I get very anxious and just don’t enjoy that bit of the journey. This is why I decided to get a late flight on Friday night and stay over at the Bloc Hotel in Gatwick.

It just meant I had time to adjust and would be ready to tackle our first day in London no problem.

The hotel itself is a bit basic. Tiny rooms, very odd bathroom layout, techy, and not very cozy. This didn’t bother me too much as we were just there to sleep. Usually I’d stay at the Premier Inn, but the price of the Bloc Hotel was better and it was something a little bit different.

BlocHotel

We popped over to Cafe Nero (it’s just outside the hotel) and got a quick bite, then off to the Gatwick Express. If I can I always try to get my train tickets at the south terminal coz they have a desk there where you can actually speak to someone. We got a return ticket and off we went.

Breakfast

We arrived at London Victoria and made our way to the tube. We still had our Oyster Cards and I was sure I had some mula on mine so we went straight through. I hadn’t been on the tube in years but it was like riding a bike. We were at Euston station in no time.

Finding the hotel wasn’t too hard but no one seemed to know where it was and we had no WiFi. London has tourist maps all over the place and I have to say they are a GOD send. We used them a number of times! We got to the hotel, left our bags, I decided to change coz it was a scorcher of a day, and off we went to our first destination, Borough Market.

Hotel

We used our oyster cards for getting around, and I made sure to get one of those little tube maps! I love them. I think we spent about £20 getting around just incase you were wondering.

I love me a good market and Jarek loves food so I thought this would be the perfect first spot to have a little wonder about until we could check into our hotel. There was a little fridge in our hotel room so the plan was to stock up, order some bubbles and have a little hotel picnic that night. We decided to have a super chill rest of the day and just enjoy the hotel room and bath! It was so lovely! And exactly what a romantic mini break is all about!

The next day was a busy one, we had lots to pack in! Our first stop was Hay’s Galleria to do a bit of pottering about before we headed to The Shard.

We had a little wonder, took some photos and had an early lunch before heading over to The View From The Shard. I’d booked it for one which was a bit late to be honest, Euston (where we were staying) was the perfect location for the tube and getting around, but I didn’t know how good it would be when I’d booked it so we had a bit of a late start to the day. If I was booking all over again I’d have actually booked the Shard twice, once early about 11 maybe and once later in the night so we could seen the lights and maybe have a few more cocktails! I’d highly recommend The View From The Shard and will for sure be going again!

Next was The Tower Of London. It’s on the other side so of course we took our chance to check out Tower Bridge too. We really enjoyed The Tower Of London, there was so much to see and do! We both agreed that we could have spent the whole day there exploring, but unfortunately my itinerary didn’t allow that ha ha! I loved seeing the crown jewels and we both really enjoyed the armory, they also had staff dressed up and acting out different scenarios which if we were there all day we could have really enjoyed.

As it was Sunday I thought it might be nice to catch the last mass at St Pauls Cathedral. it’s a Christian faith church just incase you were wondering. I’m not very religious, but its a once in a blue moon opportunity so we thought it might be nice.

The architecture and decore of the Cathedral is just stunning. The next time I’m in London I will be getting a ticket for the whole thing and really exploring. The mass was very nice, but we were so shattered we said we’d head back to the hotel for a nap and a spruce up, then hit Covent Garden for a cocktail. This was the only part of the trip I hadn’t organised, and what a fail!! We ended up just wondering about like idiots and then decided to give up get the bus home (we got a bus right outside the hotel pretty much straight to CG), thankfully on the way back we happened to come across The Delaunay and popped in for a last min cocktail.

Our flight was about four the next day so I had decided to embarrass the anxiety and had book the London Eye for first thing in the morning. It was crazy busy so get in quick if you can. We had to queue to get our tickets and time was stressing me out so we decided to upgrade our ticket and skip the, now massive, queue. It was a very good decision. I think if I was to book this trip again, I’d skip the London Eye and do the Shard twice, but thats just me!

Then a mad dash back to the hotel and off to the airport, we traveled through Gatwick so of course we had to have an early dinner at Jamies! Had to be done ha ha .

I’d taken loads of photos so I hope they give a real feel for what each area was like! I’ve also added in a couple of videos witch I touch would give a better idea of crowds and noise ( this can set off my anxiety sometimes).

Lifestyle Mental Health Podcasts

Five Podcasts you need to listen to!

17/04/2018

I was recently given an iPhone by my sister, thanks Gilly. I’m actually not a huge fan of iPhones but my Samsung is getting old so the battery life isn’t great. Anyway long story short I’m starting to see the benifits of them!

I’ve been finding it hard to shut off so tended to listen to music but as my phone would power down quite quick I started using the iPhone more and more.

One day I remembered that Anna  & Lily, a couple of my favourite YouTubers, had a pod cast and got so excited about the fact that I could listen. Welcome the addition of podcasts and number one on my hit list.

1. At Home With…

AtHomeWith

I love watching Anna and Lily so I already feel like I have a connection. I was interested to see how they would translate to a podcast. It worked! It’s funny coz I love watching Anna a tiny bit more then Lily, but I thought Lily was great in the podcast! Its funny how that happens!

I enjoyed their guests too! I liked the idea of getting to know inside peoples home too! My favourite episode was Kate Johnsons, I follow her on everything so I was keen to hear her chatting in a casual friend zone.

Once this podcast was over there was a small hole in my life. I was at a bit of a loss as to what to listen to. Then it got me. Narcissism. This personality trait has been in my life, my whole life , but last year I was ripped apart by it. Because of my own personality I tend to attract narcissistic people and I fall into the same traps over and over again. Research is a great way to get insight and some perspective. Enter my next podcast:

2. Understanding Today’s Narcissist.

UnderstandingTodaysNarcissist

This podcast is a bit heavy and hard going sometimes so unless you’re your actually interested in learning about how to deal with these types of people I’m not sure you’d be too interested in listening. I do think it’s important to know what types of people are out there, but I’m also a true believer in ignorance is bliss! I’ve found it super helpful and insightful. How Christine talks through each stage and traits, really breaks it down. She made it so simple to understand! Her podcast started in 2017 so there are quite a few to get stuck into. It does get SUPER heavy though so, enter my next podcast.

3. Estee Lalonde – The Heart Of It.

EsteeLalonde

Who doesn’t love a bit of Estee?! I was very pleased with myself when I remembered she had a Podcast. I started listening to this around the time of my birthday. It was exactly what I needed! I found it so empowering and uplifting. She talks about her anxiety, beauty, feminism and much more.

I found her honest conversations a pleasure to listen to. If you haven’t listened already you must! You won’t regret it!

I have no idea how I came across my next Podcast, but I’m glad I did. If you are anything like me you will love. Enter my next Podcast.

4. Self-Helpless .

Self-HelpLess

This is a great one for making you realise that you might be wired, but its ok, we all are. Its great because there are so many of them they kinda chat over each other so it kinda feels like you are listening on a conversation that your not really apart of, but then are. Not sure that makes sense but if you listen you’ll know what I mean!

They talk about everything, boob jobs, boyfriends, self-help books and much much more! If you are looking for a manic girly chat podcast this is the one for you!!

After listening to these I was left thinking, “I wonder if there are any Irish people doing blogs, I’d love to hear a voice from home”. Enter my next Podcast.

4. The Furniture Crush.

TheFurnitureCrush

How I found this Podcast was a gift from God himself (or herself). I’ve been following Joanne (Kyle Lane) on instagram for ages so when it popped up that she was starting a podcast I was like WHHAAAAT. I couldn’t wait! I think I may have harassed her a teeny tiny bit so I’d know exactly when her first ever podcast was going up!

I was so excited! It came at the best time ever. I have furniture project in mind and I was in dire need of hearing a friendly Irish voice. See, I told you, sent from GOD!!!!

If you are into furniture, it’s a no brainer, subscribe. If you wanna do a bit of home DIY, it’s a no brainer, subscribe. Her Podcast is pretty new so at the moment there are only two but I’m LOVING them!! I’m super excited to paint my piece of furniture. I’m even now on the hunt for some chairs!

Do you follow any podcasts? Any you think I’d like? I’ve kinda become obsessed with PodCasts so leave a comment below with what are listening too!

Till next week
